Birders:
I forgot to send a report for last week. I can do that if requested. We saw about 13 last week, I think.
This
week Jon, Kent, and I walked around and saw (and heard) quite a few bird species
-- 17
to be exact, a record for this time of year. Notably we didn't see a Scrub
Jay.
Now if we had seen a Scrub Jay, a couple of Hawks that I saw yesterday, throw the Mallards in, and the Yellow-chevroned Parakeets that are often a dime a dozen, fold in a couple more woodpeckers, a Gull, a White-throated Swift and a couple of Egrets, then we'd have tied the all-time record! But we didn't.
It was pleasant weather though, about 85 F I'd say and clear.
The list:
Rock Dove | Mockingbird | House Sparrow |
Mourning Dove | House Finch | Anna's Hummingbird |
Acorn Woodpecker | Crow | Black Phoebe |
Red-masked Parakeets | Black-chinned Hummingbird | Spotted Towhee |
Bewick's Wren | Bushtit | Band-tailed Pigeon |
Red-crowned Parrot | Lesser Goldfinch |

Five started and 3 finished today. It was about
90 F. Ashish quit at Tournament Park but not
because of the heat; he had to pick
his son up from summer school. Glenn though
wilted when we crossed California at Wilson and
scurried back to the safety of air conditioning.
That left, Kent, Bill, and me to carry on.
We did so. Total species was 14.
Lots of interesting sounds in the maintenance yard
and maybe they were all Spotted Towhees.
Jon could have saved us some time there as we tried
in vain to see them.
