Glenn, Kent, Jon, and I did some trudging today and the trudging was good. It was a nice, a little breezy, 69 degrees, and sunny. And the birding was good. Jon found a couple of Spotted Towhees, a bird we hadn't seen since 2000. Jon was trying to show me the Spotted Towhees and up popped a Hermit Thrush. Allens' Hummingbird and Wilson's Warbler were other highlights. We could have tied a record if we'd seen Ruby Crowned Kinglet, an Egret, and the Ducks. Alas, we wound wp with 25.

We did find out why the brush was cleared out of the wooded area behind IPAC some years ago. The fellow who takes care of that area was there and I asked him about it. He said he'd been taking care of that area for 15 years! Anyway, he said that some shady characters popped out of the bushes some years ago and scared some ladies. So they decided they needed to eliminate brush big enough to be hiding places.

Birders:

Kent and I manned the fort today and had a very nice walk. It was in the low to mid 60's, partly
cloudy, and nice. We also saw a good number of birds -- 22. The highlight bird was a Nashville Warbler. I was already past the tree but Kent had spotted something yellow and on further inspection we had a very cooperative Nashville on our hands. What a nice looking bird.
